Observing
Observing Nights (star parties) take place at the Society's Observatory on the first and third Friday of each month at 8:00pm, providing there is some possibility of observing, and providing an observing group including at least two adults (age 18 and over) can be formed.
The Colin Hunt Observatory (named after the main founder of our society) is located at Upper Winchendon, Grid Reference SP 737 132, for Google Maps click here.
Directions: If travelling from Aylesbury, take the A41 and turn left at the crossroads one mile before Waddesdon. Follow the road up the hill and through the small village of Upper Winchendon. The road then goes in to a deep dip, rises again and then goes in to a second dip. The track to the Observatory is on the left-hand side in the second dip.
We have a Schmidt-Cassegrain GOTO telescope available as well as a number of binoculars and telescopes that belong to members of the society.
You are also welcome to bring your own equipment to the site if
you need assistance on how to get the best out of it. Please note that
you should arrange your own insurance of the equipment as the society
cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to equipment on our
site
Members wishing to inquire about observing nights should telephone Peter Gillespy (details in the Contacts section).
Please remember to bring a torch and to wear warm clothing and stout shoes or boots, as clear nights are normally quite cold, even in the summer!
For reasons of safety, members should not go up to the Observatory
alone.
