The Aylesbury Astronomical Society meets once a month usually with a presentation by a guest speaker or a society member. Subjects range from the latest technical developments in astronomy research to practical demonstration on how to set up you telescope. We try to accommodate both beginners and the more competent members interest .
Notable speakers include Dr Allan Chapman of Oxford University, who regularly appears on BBC science programmes including the Sky at Night, as well as leading scientist and experts at the cutting edge of astronomical research.
Recent members presentations have included, Binocular astronomy, the space shuttle missions, and planetariums, and then there is the quiz night and BBQ evenings.
Meeting are on the first Monday of each month and start about 7:30 PM, with a coffee break between talks so that members and guests can chat, ending at about 9:30 to 10:00 PM Exceptions are Bank Holidays when the meeting takes place on the Monday following.
We meet at the 9th Aylesbury Scout Hut on Oakfield Road in Aylesbury HP20 1L J
Non-members are welcome, so come along to see what we are about for a few meetings without any obligation to join.The society is also available to provide open evenings at our Observatory for up to 12 people and we can provide talks on most aspects of astronomy. In the past we have welcomed visits by school groups, college classes, Scouts Cubs and Beaver groups, U3A, and many other organisations.
