Eclipse 2026

On 12th August 2026 members of the Aylesbury Astronomical Society and visitors gathered up at our observatory to watch the partial eclipse. Below is a selection of images taken at the time, from first contact though maxima to last contact as the sun set.

There will be more available when I have got the full set of images from the Celestron from a friend.

  • Coronado PST – a dedicated hydrogen-alpha solar telescope, letting observers safely view prominences and surface detail on the Sun's disc.
  • Celestron PowerSeeker 80EQ (fitted with a solar filter) – an 80mm refractor on an equatorial mount, used with a full-aperture white-light solar filter for safe eclipse viewing.
  • Canon EOS D30 (fitted with a full aperture solar filter on a long lens) – great images from start to end.
  • Eclipse Glasses – for everyone to view the eclipse safely.
  • Pinhole projectors & colanders – various assorted other home made devices to have some fun with!
